A Mother's Glory

See her marry the love of her life
Hopes and dreams, fresh and ripe
See her expect her first child with happiness
A new chapter unfolds, at first, no sadness
See the many sleepless nights
Awake with her daughter, to feed and comfort from frights
See her return to work with tears
Leaving her girl, longing to miss none of the coming years
See her add to her quiver more arrows
Her former fun self, dormant almost forgotten
This new chapter proves longer, tougher, a path downtrodden
See her break under a mother’s load
A screaming child, the pressure grows
See her hurt, weighted and alone
An old identity gone, a new one, missing home
See her catch a glimpse of joy
The children’s laughter, smiles amidst toil
Days seem fleeting and her daughter is grown
Her boys are bigger, her kids are the treasures she has sown
See her sanctified in this benevolent fire
Restless nights, weariness, tired
See the woman she has become
Scarred but stronger, fearsome, and loved
See the way her children adore her
Small hands, stories, vibrant lives, all treasured
See that girl she once was
Larger and greater is now her love
The gracious years, a lined face, streaks of grey
All a glory, a mother’s harvest, a beautiful display
