Family Worship: The Mission Begins at Home

Family worship begins at home. Integrally related to this biblical task is the Great Commission.
​​In the book of Acts, Luke records the Great Commission in this way:

​“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” (Acts 1:8)​

The task of evangelizing the lost and discipling the saved possesses a geographic contour. It starts in your hometown (Jerusalem) and moves into the larger region (Judea), to places we don’t want to go (Samaria) and to the places we’ve never heard of (the end of the earth). But if you take a step back, the Great Commission begins nearer than an unspecified place in some part of town. It starts with loving your neighbor as yourself as you love God (Luke 10:27). But we can zoom in even more than this! The Great Commission starts in your home. It begins, first, with reminding yourself of the Gospel. From here it moves to your spouse, and from you as parents to your children.​ Who would dare to share the Gospel with a stranger and neglect to tell their kids?! Only a hypocrite.​
